Pistol Training Calendar
8 weeks of structured USPSA handgun training. Skills on steel Tuesday and Thursday. Paper drills Saturday.
The goal of this program is to provide members with a structured set of drills designed to improve their skillsets. These drills are designed to be run immediately after PT, but are available for anyone to utilize at any time.
Steel only drills have been programmed for Tuesdays and Thursdays to minimize setup and maximize training time. If desired, feel free to shoot all drills on paper. Paper allows for varying distances and more accurate scoring with C and D zones.
All steel drills have been set to 15 yards. You can adjust this distance and shoot as close as 12 yards or as far as 25 yards.
Saturday is your full training session. Paper targets, real arrays, more setup time. This is where you run the traditional USPSA-style drills that require multiple targets, specific distances, and scored hits.
Plan for 100 rounds per session. Use the full bay. Set up the targets properly. Do not shortcut the setup — the configuration is part of the drill.
Any of these drills can and should be shot with variations such as running your concealment rig, changing your start position (surrender, interview, hands on table or wall), or shooting strong hand or weak hand only.
Tracking your training is a worthwhile endeavor. You can do this in a notebook or in the notes section on your phone. Tracking every single rep is not necessary. Look for trends and record your average time, your best time, and any notes or observations.
One of the most noticeable jumps in shooting ability comes from an increased awareness of what you see and feel. Do not just run these drills on autopilot. Pay attention to what your eyes are doing, how your body is moving, and how your grip feels.
